SLC updates client guides on Japanese Knotweed and Property Boundaries

The Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC) has updated its client guides on Japanese Knotweed and Property Boundaries to recognise important changes that conveyancers and their clients should be aware of.

In respect of Japanese Knotweed, the RICS issued a revised guide to valuers indicating that removal of the weed is not usually realistic, and that management is more of a realistic option. Furthermore, research has shown that it doesn’t and can’t grow through concrete and that trees and shrubs are more likely to cause damage.

The Property Boundaries Guide has been updated to include details of a new mediation services which has been launched.

Simon Law, SLC Chairman said ‘The SLC client guides are widely used by member firms across the country, and it is really important that they are kept up to date. The guides not only help to inform clients in a clear jargon free way about issues which may affect their property purchase, they also assist conveyancers to help manage the process without having to provide any verbal explanation about relevant issues.’

The two updated guides form part of a suite of 27 practice and client guides which are available to SLC member firms.
