The Society of Licensed Conveyancers is the professional body that represents the Licensed Conveyancer profession. It exists to serve the interests of its members working constructively with the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) as well as other stakeholders such as Government Departments, industry representative bodies, consumer organisations and the media; national, local and trade.
The Society has existed form the time the Licensed Conveyancer profession was established by Act of Parliament in the 1980s and has delivered many important and valuable services to members over the years.
Against a backdrop of a very difficult housing market and massive changes and challenges to the profession the Society has gone through a major re-launch in recent months aimed at a number of key objectives:
- Helping members to face the future with confidence
- Providing a viable proposition for members to act on behalf of mortgage lenders as part of their panels
- Providing information and advice on the opportunities that the new Alternative Business Structures provide for them
- Helping them to take advantage of technology to compete for the future
- Providing additional products and services to help members differentiate themselves to their clients and enhance their income streams in the process
- Give members an enhanced and inclusive professional identity
This is in addition to the many member benefits that will continue to be provided such as the stationery service, the regular editions of The Licensed Conveyancer and free CPD events. The Society is also looking at introducing a locum panel and on-line ‘find a Licensed Conveyancer’ service amongst a number of other things.
The re-launched SLC is an organisation with energy, ambition with a key emphasis on serving members and enhancing the standing of the profession. It is also facing the future with confidence.
